HOSTILE TRAINING ENVIRONMENTS EQUALS WINDFALL  TAXPAYER SUPPORTED PROFITS FOR TRUCKING

IN THIS PIECE I WILL EXPLORE HOW HOSTILE TRUCK DRIVING TRAINING ENVIRONMENTS CREATE WINDFALL PROFITS FOR TRUCKING COMPANIES.

LET US START WITH THESE DOCUMENTS ON A HOSTILE STUDENT I TRAINED. I DID NOT KNOW UNTIL HE TOLD ME HE THREATENED TO KILL HIS FIRST TRAINER.

HE WAS A WRECKLESS DRIVER AT TIMES, AND VERY HOSTILE TOWARD ME. I GUESS I MADE A GOOD IMPRESSION ON HIM, HE NEVER THREATENED TO KILL ME , JUST VERBALLY ABUSED ME AND AT NO TIME WAS PHYSICALLY VIOLENT.  BUT  THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF THE STORY OF CORPORATE TRAINING PROGRAMS  THAT CREATE HOSTILE WORK ENVIRONMNETS FOR WINDFALL PROFITS.

SOMETIMES IN THESE TRUCK TRAINING PROGRAMS THE SELECTION, SCREENING, AND ORENTATON OF STUDENTS WAS EXTREMELY POOR. MANY HAD FELONY BACKGROUNDS AND JAILTIME UNDER THEIR BELT. ADD POOR SELECTION TO POOR UNREALISTIC ORIENTATION AND INDUSTRY PROMISES  AND THIS CREATED CONFUSION, MISUNDERSTANTINGS, RESENTMENTS, AND HOSTILITY.

FOR EAMPLE OTHER STUDENTS I HAVE HAD BRAGGED ABOUT THINGS LIKE, 70 COURT APPEARANCES BEFORE JUDGES, SELLING DRUGS, BEATING THE RAP AT HIS SECOND DEGREE MURDER TRIAL, HELPING AL QUEDA IF THE MONEY WAS RIGHT, I’LL BEAT YOU UP, I COULD SLIT YOUR THROAT, I’LL BEAT YOU UP, I’LL SUE YOU ETC.

NOW THIS WAS SEVERAL YEARS AGO. I LEFT THE TRAINER PROGRAM  BECAUSE I NOW CONSIDER IT EXTREMELY UNSAFE WITH THE NEW LOG RULES REQUIRING WHAT I CALL MARATHON DRIVING SHIFTS OF 10 TO 11 HRS OF STRAIGHT DRIVING ALTRNATING WITH STUDENTS. I CANNOT EVEN DO THIS MYSELF, LET ALONE EXPECT AND TRUST  A WIDE VARIETY OF STUDENTS TO DO THIS.

AND I HAVE TO SAY I WILL MISS THE GOOD STUDENTS,  WHO I DEFINE AS EAGER, WILLING AND ABLE TO LEARN.  AND I WAS IMPRESSED WITH A SPECIAL FEW WHO BREEZED THROUGH THE PROGRAM AND LEARNED QUICKLY. I WAS GLAD I COULD HELP.   AND SEVERAL OF MY STUDENTS EVEN WENT ON TO BECOME SOME OF THE BETTER TRAINERS LIKE THE ONE  IN THIS DOCUMENT: (     mn-good-student-who-became-trainer    )

FOR THOSE THAT NEEDED MORE HELP, I ENJOYED FINDING NEW WAYS OF HELPING THEM LEARN THE ROPES AND NEW SKILLS. AND APPRECIATED THE ONES WITH A GOOD SENSE OF PROPER RESPECT, WHICH I FELT WORKED BOTH WAYS. 

BUT, UNFORTUNATELY I STILL HEAR THE SAME ABUSES AND POOR INDUSTRY PRACTICES  TODAY FROM DRIVERS LIKE TRUCKER DESIREE (IN OUR FEATURED SECTION) IN THESE HOSTILE DRIVER TRAINING ENVIRONMENTS CREATED BY THE OWNERS OF TRUCKING FIRMS

LUCKILY FOR DESIREE ,  SHE HAD THE ABILITY TO GET  HTTP://ASKTHETRUCKER.COM “S  TRUTH IN TRUCKING’S CD SET ON FRAUD AND ABUSE IN CORPORATE TRAINING PROGRAMS (ALSO IN OUR FEATURES BLOG SECTION) AND WAS ABLE TO SURVIVE THE PROCESS AND NOT BECOME A DROPOUT  STATISTIC. BUT ONLY AT GREAT PERSONAL COST AND HURT FROM AN ABUSIVE PROGRAM.

DESIREE IS AN EXAMPLE OF A GOOD STUDENT, WHO HAD ABUSIVE AND HOSTILE TRAINERS. SOME TRAINERS WOULD JUST USE THEIR STUDENTS AS SECOND LOGBOOKS TO PAD THEIR OWN DRIVING HOURS  ILLEGALLY

 AND THIS IS WHY I FEEL COMPELLED TO CONTINUE TO TELL MY STORY, PART OF WHICH INCLUDES LIFE AS A TRAINER/MENTOR IN ONE OF THESE PROGRAMS. TO LET PEOPLE KNOW THEIR ARE GOOD TRAINERS IN THESE PROGRAMS AS WELL AS BAD  ONES.

TO HOPEFULLY ENCOURAGE OTHER GOOD TRAINERS, STUDENTS, AND CORPORATE MANAGEMENT PEOPLE TO FIND WAYS TO DOCUMENT THESE ABUSES, AND TO GIVE THEM THE COURAGE TO COME FORWARD AND TELL THE TRUTH WITH THEIR OWN GOOD, SOLID DOCUMENTATION, AS WELL AS MAKE SUGGESTIONS FOR SOLUTIONS AND NEW LAWS.  (  pg-1-cruellar-citizens-legislative-proposal-idea-sheet   )      (  pg-2-cruellarcitizen-legislative-guide-proposal  ) 

THE LATTER,  (COMING  UP WITH GOOD ,PROFITABLE, CORRECTIVE LEGISLATION),  IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE WE DO NOT WANT TO BE PERCIEVED AS WHINERS, COMPLAINERS, LOSERS, POOR CAPITALISTS AND ALL THE OTHER EXCUSES I HEAR  FROM MANAGEMENT AND CORPORATE CONTROLLED TRUCKING MEDIA LIKE SIRIUS RADIO, FOR THESE POOR TRUCKING  INDUSTRY TRAINING PRACTICES OF NEW DRIVERS.

IN THAT VEIN I WANT YOU TO LOOK AT THE NEXT SET OF DOCUMENTS  BELOW STARTING WITH 100 MILLION DOLLAR IDEA. THIS PROFITABLE IDEA WAS TO CORRECT POOR STUDENT ORIENTATION AND HELP SOLO DRIVERS EARN EXTRA INCOME. THIS  WAS SO  WHEN STUDENTS GET ON THE TRUCK THEY KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT IN TERMS OF WORK.

BECAUSE OFTEN THE COMPANY RECRUITS TRAINERS WITH PROMISES OF HIGH  MILAGE TO EARN EXTRA INCOME, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME MANAGEMENT RECRUITS STUDENTS  WHO HAVE NO IDEA OF THE EXTREME HOURS OF WORK REQUIRED ON THE TRAINING PROGRAM.

THIS IS BECAUSE MANAGEMENT DOES NOT DARE TELL STUDENTS THINGS LIKE THE DROPOUT/TURNOVER RATE IS 120%. THAT THE WORK WEEK  COULD BE 80 HRS A WEEK PLUS, THAT DRIVERS DO NOT GET PAID FOR MANY ON DUTY WORK LIKE TAKING THE TRUCK TO REPAIRS, SCALING AND FUELING THE TRUCK, MINOR REPAIRS TO THE TRUCK,  ETC. ETC.

I CONTEND THIS  IS A POOR INDUSTRY PRACTICE THAT CREATES A HOSTILE WORKING ENVIRONMENT. THE RESPONSIBILKITY OF WHICH BELONGS PRIMARILY TO THE OWNER AND MANAGEMENT, RATHER TRHAN THE TRAINERS OR STUDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN RECRUITED INTO THE PROGRAM BY THE OWNEERS.  HERE ARE THE DOCUMENTS I PRESENTED TO MANAGEMENT ABOUT BOTH PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS:

BECAUSE, LIKE I SAID, I AM NOT JUST COMPLAINING, ARGUING OR WHINNING. I HAVE DONE SOMETHING THAT IS MUCH HARDER TO DO. THAT IS OVER THER YEARS, I HAVE MADE SUGGESTIONS TO FIX ALL THESE PROBLEMS WHILE MAINTAINING OR EVEN IMPROVING PROFITS OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM AS WELL AS MAKE IT  MUCH SAFER THAN IT IS TODAY. BUT COMPANIES ARE NOT INTERESTED IN IMPLEMENTING IT BECAUSE IT IS HARD WORK, AN OPTION DRIVERS DO NOT HAVE IN THEIR ENDEAVORS IN AN ABUSIVE TRUCK TRAINING PROGRAM, AND LATER AS A OVER THE ROAD DRIVER.

SO THAT IS ALSO WHY I FELT COMPELLED TO FILE WELL DOCUMENTED COMPLAINTS ON MY BEHALF AS WELL AS OTHER WORKERS INSIDE OUR COMPANY.

IN ADDITION COMPANIES WILL TRY TO SHUT  THESE SITES DOWN USING VARIOUS TECHNIQUES.  TRUCKING FIRM, SCHNEIDER FOR EXAMPLE , FORBIDS, BY POLICY, THEIR EMPLOYEES FROM SAYING ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT THE COMPANY, THUS STIFFLING WHISTLE BLOWING.

AND FIRMS HAVE  BEEN KNOWN TO FILE LAW SUITS ON THESE TYPE OF MATTERS. I CURRENTLY KNOW OF AAT LEAST ONE SUCH LAWSUIT IN PROGRESS.

BECAUSE OF THESE SUPRRESSION STRATEGIES LIKE CORPORATE POLICIES FORBIDING CRITICISMS, SUCH AS AT SCHNEIDER TRANSPORTATIN; OR LAWSUITS STRATEGY BY LARGE CORPORATE TRUCKING COMPANIES TO SUPPRESS WORKERS RIGHTS TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST ABUSES; IN PART TWO I WILL ADDRESS LEGAL PROTECTIONS FOR WHISTLE BLOWERS WHO WANT TO CORRECT ABUSIVE POOR INDUSTRY PRACTICES IN THEIR TRUCKING FIRMS.

YOU MAY HEAR OTHER PEOPLE SAY OH JUST FOLLOW THE INTERNAL COMPALINT PROCEDURE AT YYOUR COMPANY. WELL I DID THAT TOO. AFTER 20 PAGES OF VARIOUS COMPLAINTS (IN ADDITION TO  SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT ) I RECEIVED A LETTER BACK FROM OUR HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT SAYING THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG ! 

OUR OWNER, JERRY MOYES, LATER ALMOST DID JAIL TIME, HAD TO PLEDGE FULL COOPERATION, AND WAS FORCED TO TEMPORARILY STEP DOWN FROM THE COMPANY (THIS WAS RELATED TO INSIDER STOCK TRADING BUT SHOWS INTEGRITY VALUES OF THE OWNER), AND HIS COMPANY WAS WARNED BY THE FEDERAL MOTOR CARRIERS  SAFETY ASSOCIATION, THAT HIS COMPANY GOT  AN UNFAVORABLE LOG INSPECTION WARNING FOR THE WHOLE COMPANY. WHICH COULD LEAD TO WHOLE COMPANY BEING  SHUT  DOWN BECAUSE OF LOG VIOLATIONS

IF THAT IS  AN EXAMPLE OF NOTHING WRONG, I WOULD HATE TO CONSIDER WHAT OUR HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMNET CONSIDERS  A SERIOUS PROBLEM. AND THIS IS WHY WE NEED ACTIVIST TRUCKERS, PREFERABLY WORKING TOGETHER AS A GROUP, BECAUSE THESE TRUCKING COMPANIES WILL NOT EVEN ACKNOLEDGE PROBLEMS, LET ALONE FIX  THEIR POOR  INDUSTRY PRACTICES. (IT  WOULD ALSO HELP IF TRUCK DRIVERS LEARNED HOW TO BARGAIN AND NEGOTTIATE AS A GROUP AS WELL INDEPENDENT FROM CORPORATE INFLUENCES).

  1. These types of practices by the trucking companies could very well be in clear violation of the law, primarily focusing on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

    “All employers must provide work and workplaces that are safe and healthful. In
    other words, as an employer, you must follow state laws governing job safety and
    health. Failure to do so can result in a threat to the life or health of workers, and
    substantial monetary penalties.”

    “As an employee, you have the right to file a
    complaint and request an inspection of your workplace if conditions there are unsafe
    or unhealthful.”

    Though largely concerning health hazards in the work place, a threat by one of these trainees acts as an “unsafe” condition to your welfare. At least as I see it, especially if the act has been reported to the company and proper management, and they fail to do anything about it.

    My stance on such behavior is obvious: If a trainee were to threaten me, etc., I would do everything in my power to make sure they end up where they belong: prison.
